Default '06-'10 Dash Removal (non air bag)

First, you really don't have to remove the ignition cover (the dark piece around the ignition switch). If you pull up gently on the dash behind the ignition switch, it will pop up. It's held in place by grommets similar to what holds the side panels on. In the next two pictures, I'm doing this with one hand. NOTE: If this is the first time you're taking off your dash, it will be very tight trying to get the dash off around the ignition. It will come off, it just might take some extra muscle. Mine comes off easy because I have taken it off so many times.

Next, start popping loose the rest of the dash around the speakers. It just snaps in.

The tweeter wires are a little tricky. First remove the rubber seal around each tweeter. They just pull off and slide back along the tweeter wire.

To disconnect the wires from the tweeter, on the left speaker, at the 3 o'clock position (as you seated on your seat), press in on the snap latch (I don't know what else to call it) and on the right speaker, it's at the 9 o'clock position. UPDATE: I made a short video to show how to disconnect this tweeter wire.

The next part is tricky. There is a large wire coupler just in front of the ignition switch under the dash. This is also a snap latch. You will need a flat head stubby screwdriver to lift up on the latch. A good bright light will help you find your way around under there. It's best to do this latch last (after you remove the tweeter wires) to give yourself extra room to remove that coupler. Here's a video to show you how to disconnect the wire:

Once that is released, the dash comes right off. Reassemble in the reverse order.

Questions?...PM me.

Yeah, the only real difference is with the foot heater cable and knob on bikes with the comfort package, but that easy to figure out. I haven't dug into an air bag model yet.

Thanks Bart. Just what I needed. I'm working on installing a CB on my '06 and this was the 1st problem I ran into. A bit different than my '03.

Are there any gotchas to watch out for with the foot heater cables/assembly?

don't pull on the cable at all or it will come loose from behind the lower cowl and you will have to pull it to fix!

Thank you. Great video Wish I'd found it two weeks ago before I shelled out $100 @ local dealer to have the Kuryakyn handle bar set backs installed. Shame on me. No cookies for me today.

Thank you so much for the video. I was installing some risers today, had the meter panel lifted tweeters disconnected then scratched my head for 10-20 min. wondering how the h*!! the connector comes apart. Great help.

Default Speaker and, Lg multi pin connectors

Thought I'd mention that before snapping all the electrical connectors back together, a liberal application of dielectric grease would be a good idea.

Bartman, Does the meter panel on a '06 with seat and hand grip heater switches
lift off just by pulling just like the one that you have pictured? If pulled and pried
to the point where I'm afraid the plastic is going to crack... Any ideas?
Thanks much
