Default Bawlmer Wienie Run - NEW DATE - Sunday, January 11, 2009!

The Mid-Atlantic Mob Presents...

The 1st Annual
LAST PROBABLY EVER!

IMPORTANT!
Due to the 70% chance of an evil, nasty "Wintry Mix" predicted for Saturday, "we" have decided to invoke the "rain date" clause and re-schedule for...

Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 11:00a.m. at Zack's

ALSO IMPORTANT!
Due to the location of these Purveyor's of Fine Sausages we will be forced to go through the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95 South) which requires that we pay the Maryland Tunnel Fine of $2.00... But we'll discuss all this at Zack's...

The Hot Dog Havens will remain the same...

Zack's was chosen because of their wide variety of hot dogs - a real "something for everyone" kind of place

Polock Johnny's was chosen because... well... this is Bawlmer, Hon - and Polock Johnny's is a Bawlmer tradition!

Ann's was chosen for their foot longs and milkshakes

Will,
My vote would be to make it the first Saturday of January. That way they would all be open and maybe more people would be able to make it...
Just my vote. As always, majority rules,, as it should be....

The first Sat in Jan sounds good to me too. How can you leave the only two year (much less two years running) winner out?

I'll be there either day, assuming clear roads. The Polar Bear ride I traditionally do on New Year's Day was cancelled.

I am in if my new heated gloves arrive in time...
Just a few comments about the places...
The Dog House is stand up and eat only and is right around the corner, by 4 or 5 blocks from Konstants in Lexington Market. Lexington market does have some tables to sit at but is in a very undesirable area and you have to pay to park in a garage next door. PITA....

A lot of these hot dog joints are, shall we say, problematic...

G&A Restaurant: Very small "restaurant" with limited seating - and almost NO on-street parking

The Dog House: I don't know anything about this place, but "captcarl" says it's "Standing room only"

Konstant's Hot Dogs: I haven't read ANY "recommendations" for Konstant's, it's just a place I found while "researching" this ride. While Lexington Market has a parking lot co-located with it, it's not in an area where I'd trust my 'Wing - if I couldn't actually WATCH it...

Pulaski Liquor Emporium and Dog House Tavern: I don't know anything about this place other than the Baltimore City Paper awarded them Baltimore's Best Hot Dogs in 2006

Attman's Authentic New York Delicatessen: It's been years since I've been there. It's a GREAT deli, but I don't know anything about their hot dogs. Last time I was there I believe there was metered parking in a lot across the street... Carl? Wheels?

Polock Johnny's: Noted for their Polish "dogs". These ain't great "dogs", but Polock Johnny's IS a Baltimore tradition - plus, they have a parking lot in front of the shop on Washington Boulevard!

Ann's Dari-Creme: Small place, limited seating - but parking isn't a problem - great shakes, too!

Zack's: Limited seating, but parking isn't a problem

So... At this point, it looks like we'll be hitting:
  • Zack's - for their variety of hot dogs
  • Polock Johnny's - for their Baltimore "ambiance"
  • Ann's Dari-Creme - for their foot longs & milkshakes
Now I just have to figure out how to move this group around the city...

Stay tuned!

Greetings!

How to route them together? Looks pretty simple to me.

My two cents:

Forget Konstant's. If you haven't been to Lexington Market lately, it's like being stuck in a bad re-make of "Blade Runner."

Attman's is good. And the "projecks" that used to be across the street have been torn down. Just note that it's a Kosher joint so don't ask for cheese on your hot dog, you turtlenecked heathen.

I like the choices of Zack's, Polock Johnnys and Ann's Dairy Cream . I just hope that Zack's opens up early so I do not fill up to late and spoil my dinner at Ann's....

Attmans is a great deli and the place across the street , which used to be called Jack's, had good dogs and plenty of seating. I do not know if its still in business. The fact that its not listed is a hint.. But I think they are to "downtown" to try and get a group ride in and out.... To many traffic lights.

First Sat looks good right now. I'm sure we can get to each location without a great deal of grief unless we end up with 100 bikes. And if we do, no worries, that's what CBs and GPSs are for. Now. . . where did I put the Tumbs?

Jack's is still there; the name has changed as it was bought out by another Red Sea Pedestrian.

Through-Town navigation really won't be all that bad on a Saturday; I doubt that we're going to have more than six bikes anyway. But if we do, just break it up into groups small enough to squirt through the light and make sure that the first guy in each group 1) has a GPS, and 2) knows where we are going.

OK, the decision is final. We will Officially kick-off the New Year on January 10th, 2009 with our Baltimore Wienie Run as long as the streets are dry.

After lengthy discussions today between Margarita Will and I, during lunch at our favorite Irish Pub, the final "doggone" details have been "cooked up" and we both "relish" the notion that everyone will want to "roll" on over to what might be a "chilly" ride. We whittled things down to the most important things we wanted to accomplish. Riding and eating. But possibly not in that order. So with that, here is the plan. We will gather at Zack's by 11:00 AM (it's when they open) and be ready to order the first dog of the day. Dress will be warm, as there is a good chance that we all will not fit in dinning room (as if they had one to begin with). Remeber to wear something that you would have no problem with having it proudly display some, if not most, or what you were eating all over it.

From there we will (as a group) make final plans to get to Polock Johnny's. I have GPS routes that will either take us on interstate around the beltway, and through the Tunnel, OR, we can agree to get off at Eastern Avenue and take a "scenic" ride through down, thus avoiding the Tunnel and some interstate. Arrival time will depend on how long it takes for the antacids to kick in from the first dog.

From there, we will make our way down to Ann's where we will enjoy our finally dog, complete with dessert given that this is where some of the best milkshakes you have ever had will be made. Arrival time will be based on how well everyone feels after having finished our "meal" at Polock Johnny's.

Once we are done at Ann's, everyone will be on there own since there is no way I will want to be anywhere near, or following, you guys given what I expect will be the results of consuming these products.

Will's info covers location information and I have included a map picture as well.

See you all on the 10th at 11.

This all looks like it's going to be fun...And I'm sure that I would have enjoyed it.. However, that nasty "four letter" word (work) has reared it's ugly head and I'm not going to be able to attend....
It would be nice of Wheels or Will to run a couple of those "dogs" up to me while I'm working though.... (since I didn't get any of the cheese cake)
Okay,, enjoy !

Greetings!

30% chance of precipitation? So that means if 10 bikes show up, only 3 of them will get snowed on. I nominate Wheels, Willie, and Blondie.

See? Problem solved!

Ok, I'll volunteer to be one of the three that gets snowed on -- heck, what's a little snow on a trike...

Anybody have any ski's I can put under the tires???

Wish I could,, but,, I don't see anything changing in the next week...
There's NO CHANCE of us closing down and NO CHANCE of me getting laid off.... I would like to have about a month or two off... But work just keeping picking up more and more each week...I wish it would slow down a little,,,
See you at the next ride,, I hope,,,,,,

Default Weather for the ride

.
Three weather sites are all saying partly sunny and temps around 37°-38°
Only one weather site is now saying a chance of snow/rain and temps around 49°.

Weather sites that are in agreement:
NOAA.gov
wunderground.com
AccuWeather.com

Weather site that is off from the others:
Weather.com

So it looks like I don't have to volunteer to be one of the 3 that gets snowed on after all

Talking Eatin' in Balmer Merlin, hon

I had eaten at Zacks in Parkville/Carney before. Thanks to your hot dog list, last week, we ate at Ann's Dari-Creme and had a foot-long. I only had mustard, but should have gotten chili since the bun is wide to handle all the extras.

Yesterday, we were in Lexington Market. While the Mrs was eating oysters at Faidley's, I had an all beef at Polock Johnny's. On our way for fruit and for donuts, the Mrs snagged an all beef from Konstant's Hot Dogs. Mmm Mmmm.

Hope the weather holds up. (Checking the list....)

Tony

We are back to rain and snow showers on Saturday.
Noaa.gov
Wunderground.com
weather.com
Sunday however is suppose to be party cloudy to sunny no rain or snow forecasted

Hey Will and Wheels, would you guys consider Sunday as a possibility of a "rain/snow" date

Spoke with Will today and depending on road conditions, we will post something by Friday if there is a need to change. To early to call right now given how things change around here.
